Maybe, This Christmas (Christmas 2016)

It’s been quite the year for me, dear readers.

As I reflect back on what has been accomplished this year at timotheories, I’m proud of all the new theories we’ve been able to bring to you, the friendships strengthened through opportunities of collaboration whether in monthly interviews, Cross Talk film discussion or the much anticipated Just ‘n Time Games (I swear it’s coming), and of course so much curating I can’t even believe it.

2017 looks to be even brighter, and as I personally wind down for a week of reflection, timed perfectly with the Christmas season, I can’t help but be inspired by the holidays friends.

Normally, I like to tell people that I’m not a large fan of Christmas, after all, it is a lot of effort for very little physical pay-off. But upon the start of my reflection, the mistake I make in writing and believing that, is that Christmas really is a SEASON of giving and goodwill, and I believe that most of us use this time to set aside our desires for recognition to share ourselves and provide something special to those we care about.

With that in mind, I’ve rewritten some Christmas lyrics into a little poem, capturing the intent of this realization for me. I can thank my girlfriend Mysticque for a lot of this inspiration, because she is a dedicated and giving individual, perhaps a bit sentimental too, which I use in a positive light as a robot coming off of his programming.

So this one is for you baby.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, all is calm. All is bright.

I don’t want a lot this Christmas. Just, like, the ones I used to know… You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear, voices singing “And so this is Christmas, I hope you have fun. The near and the dear ones, the old and the young.” Way up in the sky, little lamb, do you see what I see? A star, a star, dancing in the night. O holy night! The stars are brightly shining.

Do they know it’s Christmastime at all?

Please have snow and mistletoe. And presents by the tree… Won’t be the same dear, if you’re not here with me.Oh, there’ll be no more sorrow, no grief and pain. and I’ll be happy, Christmas once again. This year, to save me from tears, I’ll give it to someone special.

I really do believe in you, let’s see if you believe in me. And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows.

With that shared, timotheories always has been and always will be digital curating at heart, and you can’t have heart without art, creative cuties. I ask you to take some time, whether Christmas inspired or not, to reflect on your own year, consider what you’ve achieved, and set the bar a little higher for yourselves, never measuring against others, but against you, because you CAN achieve your dreams, and Christmas is a great reminder of why sharing with others is vital.

Happy holidays and I’ll see you in the new year, with a new plan, some new theories, and lots of he(art).

Rebirth (timotheories August 2016)

I’m sure you’ve heard this expression once or twice before, dear readers, but I’m gonna throw it at you again, because it’s relevant for today’s topic.

A lot can change in a month.

You can be on top of the world one minute, and then you’re struggling for air the next. After all, nothing in life is certain, except for death and the occasional rebirth. It happens all the time in comic books after all.

DC-Rebirth-Shot-05

And for one well considered reason or another, the comic book movie train won’t stop, so for all intents and purposes, it is a fantastic time to be a fan of the genre.

Which is why it’s important to talk about another kind of rebirth. Yeah, that’s right you sneaky monkeys, I’m gonna share what’s happening during the month of August on timotheories. We’ve already had a post about covering off the importance of professionalism in relation to your creative brand, a review of the excellent film Whiplash, and a review of Michael Kiwanuka’s soul album Love & Hate. But I know you’re already wondering what’s next.

So let us get the disclaimer out of the way, then we can dive right on in and go over the schedule.

*Disclaimer* As always, every week I purchase an album and movie one week ahead of the actual review release and while I have the best intentions, I don’t always get what I want… so if you follow me on instagram (@timotheories) you can actually see what’s coming.

Awesome sauce, let’s get to it then:

Stimulating Sundays – (08/07) Brad Fehr interview, (08/14) Comic Books, (08/21) Cross Talk Ep. 8, (08/28) Megan Warkentin interview
Melodic Mondays – (08/01) Michael Kiwanuka, (08/08) Jake Owens, (08/15) Descendents, (08/22) Wild Beasts, (08/29) Factor Floor
Theatrical Tuesdays – (08/02) Whiplash, (08/09) Batman: The Killing Joke, (08/16) Primer, (08/30) The Nice Guys
Wisdom Wednesdays – (08/03) Professionalism, (08/10) Your Wardrobe, (08/17) Neil Strauss, (08/24) Pinterest, (08/31) Watchmen
Timely Thursday – (08/04) timotheories August, (08/11) Happiness and Reflection, (08/18) Fringe Festival (08/25) Artwork Update

The year of all killer, no filler continues friends! Nothing quite like laying it all on the line and getting right to the point. Without this strategy I wouldn’t be able to reinvigorate the weekly grind quite so easy.

For starters, you definitely won’t want to miss episode eight of Cross Talk. Chris and I decided to bring K. G. Singh back as a regular staffer and this time we’ll chat about what distinguishes a re-watchable movie from a quality movie. Awesome sauce, as was already mentioned.

PART1

On top of that, I realized I initially promised an interview with Brad Fehr didn’t I? But instead I snuck in a nice teaser. Well don’t be alarmed, because the full length interview is coming out this Sunday AND I’ll even share another interview with grad student Megan Warkentin. Her interview will be all about exploration, or to put it another way, an excellent opportunity to consider opportunity.

Now it might seem like we’ve covered it all, but I think my next plan is to drop that Just In Time Games series into your lap, but we’re not quite there yet. We’ve got lots of test footage, and a decent amount of see games sampled, so the anticipation will continue to build. I know, I’m being a little flaky, but I promise it’ll be worth it.

And those are all of the theories I can come up with for now friends. Please leave some comments, to let us know what you want to see in coming months and subscribe to the blog too!

So Fresh and So Clean (timotheories July 2016)

I cannot believe that we’ve already gone through half of 2016, dear readers, so much has happened and so much has changed.

I feel like Jay-Z in Change Clothes. You know I stay fresh to death, I’m gonna bring art through the mess of pop culture and to the top of the internet. So lets go.

jayz16

You know what that means, I’m going to bring the hammer down and talk the month of July on timotheories. We’ve had a post about fairness in art, and some wisdom about research via the website Snopes. But what else is on the menu for the rest of the month?

I’ll get to that sweet sweet schedule, but first, I need to share my disclaimer. That old chestnut.

*Disclaimer* As always, every week I purchase an album and movie one week ahead of the actual review release and while I have the best intentions, I don’t always get what I want… so if you follow me on instagram (@timotheories) you can actually see what’s coming.

Great! Now we can get into the thick of it. And of course I’ve included the week of July 3-9 as a reference point, even though we’ve already had a great review of White Chapel and Ex_Machina:

Stimulating Sundays – (07/03) Fairness in Art, (07/10) Mystery Interview ???, (07/17) Cross Talk Ep. 7, (07/24) Comic Books, (07/31) Brad Fehr interview
Melodic Mondays – (07/04) White Chapel, (07/11) Magic!, (07/18) The Avalanches, (07/25) Good Charlotte
Theatrical Tuesdays – (07/05) Ex_Machina, (07/12) Pride & Predjudice & Zombies, (07/19) Everybody Wants Some!!, (07/26) Whiplash
Wisdom Wednesdays – (07/06) Snopes, (07/13) Your Business Plan, (07/20) Syndication, (07/27) Your Image
Timely Thursday – (07/07) timotheories July, (07/14) Art Walk, (07/21) Taste of Edmonton, (07/28) K-Days

The year of all killer, no filler continues friends! Can you believe that I have something special in store for you this month too? I’m going to share an international artist interview with you for the first time ever!

AND this month’s Cross Talk features a guest appearance from an action movie expert in the form of a gentleman. And I know I sound like a broken record but you really won’t want to miss it.

20040607_6_remotes

Lastly let’s go over a really cool interview I’ll be sharing with an artist who is conscious of everything; he makes intuition seem like Mickey Mouse cartoons. Brad Fehr. That’s all you’ll get on this interview for now, but it’ll be cerebral at the very least.

And now we’ve covered it all, my friends. Or have we?

Sorry one more thing, I’m still working on the table top games videos, so stay tuned for more on that front. For realz.

And those are all of the theories I can come up with for now friends. Please leave some comments, to let us know what you want to see in coming months and subscribe to the blog too!

Behind The Theories (timotheories June 2016)

Well we finally made it! We’re now into the 6th month of the year and I’ve got another fantastic monthly update for you, dear readers!

Yes, it’s time to unveil the show and give you a sneak peek of things to come in the month of June. We’ve already started things off right with a post about the importance of plans, and I think it’s a great indicator of the continued quality we are able to offer at timotheories.

quality

Before we get into the schedule though, I need to share my disclaimer with you. It’s old hat but always important as I don’t want to disappoint.

*Disclaimer* As always, every week I purchase an album and movie one week ahead of the actual review release and while I have the best intentions, I don’t always get what I want… so if you follow me on instagram (@timotheories) you can actually see what’s coming.

Great! Now we can get into the thick of it. And of course I’ve included the week of May 29-June 4 as a reference point, though you’ve already read my review on Eric Clapton’s new record and we’re in the midst of today’s post:

Stimulating Sundays – (06/05) David Wiens interview, (06/12) Cross Talk Ep.6, (06/19) Formalist Art, (06/26) Just In Time Games
Melodic Mondays – (06/06) Holy Fuck, (06/13) Paul Simon, (06/20) The Veronicas, (06/27) Radiohead
Theatrical Tuesdays – (06/07) Love In The Time of Monsters, (06/14) Zootopia, (06/21) 10 Cloverfield Lane, (06/28) Midnight Special
Wisdom Wednesdays – (06/01) Plan to Make Plans, (06/08) Multi-Tasking, (06/15) George Orwell, (06/22) Why You Must Keep A Journal, (06/29) Snopes
Timely Thursday – (06/02) timotheories June, (06/09) Nextfest, (06/16) Father’s Day, (06/23) The Works, (06/30) The Fast & The Furious

The year of all killer, no filler continues friends! Now I should warn you, I do have something extra special planned with the interviews going forward, and because we feature interviews on Sundays, I may or may not be pushing a few things around in the Sunday and Thursday posts to accommodate the influx of international artist Q&A opportunities, but more on that when it comes up.

This month’s Cross Talk is going to be an interesting one as Chris and I talk about how fandom can impact film and influence studio direction, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad.

You won’t want to miss it.

And of course the David Wiens interview is forthcoming; now that will be a fantastic entry into the fold of existing timotheories interviews. It’s my most precise and informative interview yet, and with a sculptor of light, no less.

And now we’ve covered it all, my friends. Or have we?

I probably sound like a broken record at this point, but seriously been working the format over on the tabletop gaming series and I now have a serious partner to host with, and an excellent local location to shoot the videos, and it’s just in time.

And those are all of the theories I can come up with for now friends.

Theories Unfurled (timotheories May 2016)

Hey there, dear readers! Can you feel it?

It’s the first Thursday of the month and that means it’s time for me to share with you this month’s schedule… Duh duh duh. It’s gonna be awesome though, so don’t hit backspace just yet or swipe left if you’re a millennial. The new schedule will ease all concerns.

*Disclaimer* As always, every week I  purchase an album and movie one week ahead of the actual review release and while I have the best intentions, I don’t always get what I want… so if you follow me on instagram (@timotheories) you can actually see what’s coming.

In other words, I live in Canada, which is not as free and as brave as the US – please don’t be disappointed if the music and movie reviews change, because they’ll still be good ones. I promise.

Alright?

Great! Let’s get this show on the road! Here are the May entries you can expect to see on timotheories; I’ve even included the week of May 1-7 for easy recall later on –

The year of all killer, no filler continues friends! As always we have an excellent lineup of reviews on film and music (if you’re a musician or filmmaker, drop me a line for your own review opportunity). We have an excellent Cross Talk lineup on the 15th, which coincidentally is my pick and close to my heart, so stay tuned for a case of David VS Goliath.

Okay, I know I’ve gotten into the habit of giving you a teaser of the Cross Talk episode, but I’ll do you one better and go into some more detail. This month Chris and I are going to be talking about under-appreciated films. The ones you love but can’t understand why they aren’t more popular… And we open up about our favourites too.

You won’t want to miss it.

Now let’s talk turkey about the May timotheories interview. So you know how I’ve been slowly improving on my videography skills, much like a ninja of motion? This is thanks, in large part, to the instruction of various creative types in my community who have given me advice on occasion. Well, I’ve decided to interview a friend of mine who is a photographer and a sculptor of light. He’s got an interesting back story too, but you’ll have to watch on the 29th to get the full picture. Might’ve been a bad pun there.

And now we’ve covered it all, my friends. Or have we?

As you know, we’ve been playing with the idea of introducing a tabletop gaming series on timotheories for a few months now, and this month might actually see the realization of that idea. But with a different name. And did I mention I’m opening up the lines for international creative types to take Q&As with me? May could have some of those interviews in store. If you think you’ve got the stuff to duel with keyboards, please send me a note.

And those are all of the theories I can come up with for now friends.
