Let’s be real.

These are the cultural artifacts that deserve a conversation. Dig deeper into the the symbols, stories and strange obessions of pop culture that leave a mark on us.

Why confer culture?

Join your hosts Chris Murphy and Tim Kuefler as they take pop culture seriously, but not solemnly. This podcast asks the question – if culture isn’t just content, then what is the context?

Confer Culture unpacks the ideas behind the icons. From Star Wars to everything else, we talk movies, memes, myths, meaning, and more. Whether we’re deciding if Cage is better than Keanu, what the significance of a social etiquette rule means for nerd culture, or why Gen Z still loves physical media, we’re there to confer for you.

Yes, this is a dedicated landing page for your Confer Culture podcast — part of the media arm of timotheories. From a pragmatic standpoint, it aligns stylistically with the YouTube channel and The Broadcast podcast, while carving out its own identity. And that identity? Let’s just say it’s built on debate, deep dives, and more than a pinch of nerd rage.

This isn’t the kind of show where we summarize trailers or give you a numbered list of must-see films… though sometimes we do that too. It’s the place where we give pause to the things that won’t leave us alone — that quote, that performance, that trope that’s been bothering you for years but you couldn’t quite name. It’s the spot where we side-eye the algorithm and ask if it’s really giving us culture or just packaging content like drive-thru meals. So instead, we strap into the armchairs and wax poetic.

And yes, this is more than hot takes. But sometimes… it is that too.

See, we enjoy digging into our favourite films, albums, board games and more. But we also take hard left turns — talking about streaming fatigue, why live events still matter, and whether we’re just nostalgic… or trying to rewrite our own canon. And yeah, it gets weird sometimes. But that’s the kind of the point. In an ever increasing world of lazy writing and relying on programmatic learning to make a point, we know that you need this, because we need this.

The theories filter into this space too. Whether we’re dissecting character arcs, making up fake awards ceremonies, or confessing that maybe we like the prequels more than the sequels (guess which one of us that is), you’ll find us arguing with good humour and refusing to agree — unless it’s about Gary Oldman. We always agree on Gary Oldman. And I bet, before long, you’ll be siding with one of us on a topic. Because frankly, we can never really seem to agree on anything.

Expect:

  • Tangents that actually teach you something
  • Theory-rich conversations grounded in pop culture, not detached from it
  • Spirited debates, genre dissections, and occasional rabbit holes
  • Thoughtful takes on art, entertainment, nostalgia, and cultural evolution
  • Just enough absurdity to keep it human

So pull up a chair, charge your earbuds, and let’s get weird about pop culture and art. Because everything means something – and we’re here to figure out what. And yes, you can sit with us.

Cultural conversations worth having.

And here is a taste of what you’ll overhear on Confer Culture. We like to keep it episodic, so you’re going to discover its less of a playlist and more of a pop culture potluck. And sometimes, (read: most times) we just argue. And not every debate is solved, but we love to hash it out.

The “Cageaissance,” and other side quests.

We love a good comeback story, and nobody did it quite like Cage. But we also dive into themes of masculinity, legacy, and what makes a performance iconic.

Board shame and the uncool cool.

Physical media, collectibles, and cardboard still matter. We dig into the culture of play and the artifacts that shape our identities — one dice roll at a time.

Soundtracks to save us.

Music for your life. There’s something to be said for a good breakup song, a hype anthem, or a an earworm that took 10 years to sort out. I’m looking at you, Band of Horses.

Asking questions like why pop culture reflects, refracts, and sometimes rewrites our values.
The heart of society, because what we binge says more about us than we think.
